Donate Now for Haiti’s Elderly

As we know, the earthquake that struck Haiti on January 12th 2010 was one of the worst tragedy of this early century. As of 12 February 2010, an estimated three million people were affected by the quake; the Haitian Government reports that between 217,000 and 230,000 people had been identified as dead, they also estimated that 250,000 residences and 30,000 commercial buildings had collapsed or were severely damaged.

As the Washington Post, the New York Times and other media outlets report, some of the people that are suffering the most are the elderly.
Some 800,000 Haitians are over 60. Most of these older people live in extreme poverty and many of them have lost their homes and loved ones. Immediate needs for older Haitians and their families include shelter, food, water and medical attention–including measures to prevent the spread of infection due to the hot temperatures on the island.
